A Word from McGuffy

Our world is rapidly shrinking and we seem to be faced with two opposing paradigms. As businesses look more and more to the Inter- net we realize that our concept of the world is increasingly global. The information highway is already grid-locked with more thoughts, opinions and theories than we can begin to digest. Yet in many ways our main interests are still very much centred in our own geographic area, province and country.

Do you ever wish there was a simple way to wade through it all without getting lost? Now there is! McGuffy’s News offers real news in bite-sized portions as well as local advertising and viewpoints - all from a Canadian vantage point!
Our corner of the world is so important! Our local businesses, organizations and events are the life blood of our communities. This is where we really live and grow and as our communities thrive so do we. Bringing these two vastly different, yet vitally important areas into a clearly Canadian focus is what we aim to do in McGuffy’s News.

You may think that there are people conducting weird researches out there, calling themselves scientists. I know scientists are often characterized by their, shall we say,
eccentricities, so everything
about them is weird. But this is
not the point I am making. The point here is that we live in a
world full of scientists and technologies designed to think,
dig, question, uncover and
answer on our behalf. So we
take it for granted that “we”

Molly Reeves believes the secret of living a long life is just to be happy! For this 100 year-old gal from Manchester England, that means donning the gloves and stepping into the
ring – that’s right! The boxing ring! Once a week Reeves laces up and practices
her jabs and ducks
to keep fit. While it leaves her a bit
achy afterward, Molly loves the sport and has no plans to hang up the gloves any time soon!

How Many Planets
Around The Sun?
We were always taught there where nine planets orbiting the Sun, right? Yes, it WAS right. Pluto was classified as the ninth planet shortly after its discovery and remained so for 75 years. But on August 24, 2006, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) decided on a new definition of ‘planet’ which does not include Pluto. Pluto is now classified as a ‘dwarf planet’, a class distinct from ‘planet’.

Where Happiness Lies
By thinking about how we answer to the world around us I just recalled that story of a guy who was complaining to his mentor... “I’m so poor and miserable! I have nothing but my family and the only fun ever I have is to feed the doves in my backyard...” So his mentor told him to try and bring the birds into the house for two weeks...
