A Word from McGuffy

Our world is rapidly shrinking and we seem to be faced with two opposing paradigms. As businesses look more and more to the Inter- net we realize that our concept of the world is increasingly global. The information highway is already grid-locked with more thoughts, opinions and theories than we can begin to digest. Yet in many ways our main interests are still very much centred in our own geographic area, province and country.

Do you ever wish there was a simple way to wade through it all without getting lost? Now there is! McGuffy’s News offers real news in bite-sized portions as well as local advertising and viewpoints - all from a Canadian vantage point!
Our corner of the world is so important! Our local businesses, organizations and events are the life blood of our communities. This is where we really live and grow and as our communities thrive so do we. Bringing these two vastly different, yet vitally important areas into a clearly Canadian focus is what we aim to do in McGuffy’s News.

Mr. McGuffy

The Wolves Within

A young boy clung tightly to his grandfather, Wolf Dreamer, as he fought back the tears. Piece-by-piece, the story came out? A cruel classmate... unkind words... injustice done – anger – and desire for revenge.

Wolf Dreamer said, “Grandson, let me tell you a story. I too have felt a great hate for those that would take, having no regard for those they hurt, having no sorrow for what they do. But hate is a thing that wears you down and does not hurt your enemy. It is like swallowing poison and and hoping your enemy will die. These feelings have warred within me many times. They have crept into my mind and my thoughts and my heart. I have struggled with them for most of my 80 years.

It is if there are two wolves inside me. The first one is good and does no harm. He is powerful and strong. He stands for freedom and independence, living in harmony with all around him. This first wolf does not take offense when no offense was intended. He will only fight when it is right to do so and he will only fight in the right way. But the other wolf, the second one is angry. He is wounded and in pain. That pain and anger drives him to lash out at those who cross his path. Because he is filled with anger, the littlest thing will cause him to lose his temper. He fights with everyone, all the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his pain and anger and hate are so great.”

It is hard to live with these two wolves inside my spirit”, he said. “They constantly fight and battle to see which one will dominate my spirit.”

The boy listened silently, looked intently into Wolf Dreamer’s eyes. “Grandfather,” he asked, “which one wins"?

Wolf Dreamer solemnly replied, “The one I feed.”
